In the field of agriculture, Pakistan has also made significant achievements in the field of biotechnology. According to a report published in the International Service for the Acquisition of Agrobiotic Applications, Pakistan ranks eighth in terms of cultivated area of ​​genetically modified crops, while China ranks second in South Asia besides Pakistan. And India is ranked seventh and fifth respectively. The yield per acre in Pakistan is lower than other countries.

Similarly, Pakistan ranks fourth and tenth in terms of milk and meat production respectively.

Milk production is lower than the average of a few developed countries, which can be improved to significantly increase export volumes.

At present there are a few good institutes in Pakistan which are practically engaged in the promotion and development of research and development in the field of biotechnology. Among them are National Institute for Biotechnology and Genetic Engineering Faisalabad, Ayub Agricultural Institute Faisalabad, Nuclear Institute for Agriculture and Biology Faisalabad, Center for Excellence in Ma Liquular Biology Lahore, Dr. Panjwani Center for Molecular Medicine, University of Karachi Notable are the Agriculture Research Center Islamabad and the School of Biological Sciences Punjab University. But given the country's growing population and needs, more world-class institutions need to be created.

But the sad fact is that our government is not interested in science and technology in general and biotechnology in particular. Hundreds of students in the country are unemployed every year after graduating with a degree in biotechnology as the door to employment at the academic, industrial and administrative levels is almost closed for students after graduating with this degree. This is a clear indication of the lack of institutions in our country to promote the biotechnology industry.

To promote this sector, the government should not only expedite the establishment of new research institutes but also establish industries that are directly linked to research institutes to improve productivity and create new employment opportunities. The establishment of science and technology parks in this regard is the most urgent need of the hour. Will be launched and will help in modernizing the science and technology industry in the country. This will not only open the door to employment in the biotechnology sector, but also increase exports, increase foreign exchange and accelerate the country's growth.
